Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Safety Goal: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) represents the next generation of driving safety for the open road. When a car is set on cruise control mode the system maintains a safe following speed from the car ahead.

How it works: The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system uses Millimeter Wave Radar (MWR) to determine the speed of the vehicle ahead and adjusts the cruise control to match that speed. The electronic control unit (ECU) attached to the MWR sensor takes the radar readings and determines the appropriate response. The vehicle speed and yaw rate sensors input information, and the signal is output to the throttle control. MWR systems have an advantage over laser-radar systems as they are not affected by precipitation. The MWR sensor operates at 76GHz.
