Safety Goal: Vehicle Stability Control products help regain control of a vehicle that has become unstable, e.g. icy roads.
The Vehicle Stability Control family of products includes:
ABS Braking
Traction Control (TCS)
Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), an electronic stability control system
The Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) electronic control unit (ECU) combines the features of ABS and TCS, plus adds additional features to give the driver maximum control over the vehicle. The additional features include 4-wheel anti-lock braking and brake control while accelerating from any speed. The ECU receives signals from the wheel speed sensors and the yaw rate sensor then sends outputs to the brake modulators and throttle control.
How it works: The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) electronic control unit (ECU) prevents skids when the driver applies the brakes. It receives signals from the wheel speed sensors and sends signals to the brake modulators.
The Traction Control System (TCS) traction control unit prevents wheel spin when the driver accelerates. It receives signals from the wheel speed sensors and sends signals to the throttle control and brake modulators.
